Rent Responsibly is the community building and education platform for local short-term rental alliances. Our tools and alliance management services equip local leaders to build successful, self-sustaining organizations of short-term rental hosts, managers, and all other stakeholders. We make it easy for leaders and members to connect, collaborate, solve common challenges, advocate for themselves, steward their communities, and rent responsibly.

The Marketing Specialist will play a central role in the effectiveness and ultimate success of Rent Responsibly by owning the quality of our brand with a sharp focus on brand content across all public-facing channels and platforms.

The Marketing Specialist will report to the COO. This position will start in September/October.

Primary Duties:

  • Own the quality control of all Rent Responsibly brand design, copy, and voice
  • Manage the graphic design of all brand materials, including RentResponsibly.org, event assets, social media assets, print materials, swag, and advertising
  • Contribute to the design and content of our custom software platform
  • Write marketing copy and design assets for Rent Responsibly’s website, social media, campaigns, advertisements, events, and email campaigns
  • Write marketing copy for Rent Responsibly’s managed alliance websites and provide strategic design and copy editing support for alliance social media, campaigns, advertisements, events, and email campaigns
  • Copy edit and proof all public-facing content for voice, style, and proper grammar
  • Create short- and long-form videos for use across a variety of channels
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to guide A/B testing of ads and campaigns
  • Manage and optimize RentResponsibly.org and other web communication platforms
  • Manage and contribute to the content development process, including sourcing subjects, identifying new content needed, and distributing new and evergreen content
  • Develop and implement social media content plans that are consistent with the company’s brand identity and engage with social media followers

Secondary Duties:

  • Support PR and thought leadership, including building relationships with media contacts and identifying opportunities for interviews, guest articles, and other third-party content
  • Contribute to special projects, such as pilots and surveys
  • Coordinate with partner organizations

Qualities and Qualifications:

  • You’ve worked 5+ years in marketing.
  • You have broad experience in all areas of marketing with deep experience in branding, graphic design, writing, and copy editing. You are fluent in how design and copy work together, and you’re well versed in the technical aspects of digital and print design.
  • You have moderate experience in video creation.
  • You’re comfortable working with startups and small, fast-moving, collaborative teams, and you’re excited about building this role as we grow.
  • Your communication and presentation skills are impeccable. You know how to tell a brand story well and make complex or dry topics easily understandable and interesting to different audiences. 
  • You have supreme attention to detail, but you don’t wallow in the weeds. You can see the big picture and execute the details.
  • You don’t shy away from making processes more efficient or creating new processes from scratch when needed.
  • You love hitting Post or Send and marking things off your to-do list. 
  • Everything checked off your list meets your high standards of quality, and you’re great at being the quality control gatekeeper for all public-facing brand elements.
  • You know how to set deadlines and project milestones for yourself, and you don’t mind gently nudging others to meet theirs, too, especially for processes you own. 
  • You are adept at managing your time. You can juggle projects and shuffle priorities flexibly. You are versed in saying “Yes, but” or “No, but” to new requests.
  • You think two and three steps ahead with strategy and tact.

  • Experience in the short-term and vacation rental industry
  • WordPress website management experience

Rent Responsibly is a 100% remote team. We collaborate daily through Slack, Zoom, Google Workspace, and Airtable. We don’t measure our days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but through productivity and execution.
