Call me an iconoclast, but I covet the few participation trophies I get as a middle-aged man. So much so that I once ran a 31-mile ultramarathon for a participation trophy (err, finisher’s medal).
“Hey Google, why did participation trophies become a bad thing?” Answer: Participation trophies are rewards for showing up rather than winning.
But, as in advocacy, what if participation is the key to winning?
In our experience, it is. That’s why we create more and more and easier ways to participate.
Which brings me to the Right to Rent Collaborative (R2RC) – the ultimate “easy button” for empowering STR communities. From the 2025 Impact Report, in R2RC’s inaugural year:
R2RC raised $193,124 and drove critical funds to 8 STR associations as grants that feuled 62% growth in the number of thriving groups and six new Executive Director positions. Now, over 57,000 listings are protected by funded advocacy groups.
Not bad for a first lap.
Unless you’re already a vendor member, PMS partner, Founding Property Manager, or an R2RC Board or Advisory Committee member, it’s your turn to step up.
STR owners: Sign up for a monthly contribution here.
Property managers: Join R2RC’s $2 per reservation donation program, the easiest of easy buttons. Every reservation you complete can now automagically fill an aid station cup for advocates protecting your right to take more reservations.
The kicker? By joining, you get a cool participation trophy, and a darn meaningful one.
