First up, please join me in wishing my co-founder, Dave Krauss, a very Happy 40th Birthday! 💙 He’s enjoying a well-deserved cruise this week, so leave a happy birthday wish on this post in the RR Network for him to enjoy when he gets back.
Second, it’s Women’s History Month, a big deal to our mostly female team here at Rent Responsibly. Throughout March, we’ll be celebrating with several special editions of our Humans of STRs Series featuring incredible women in the industry, like:
- Vanessa de Souza Lage, Amy Hinote, and others who have led the effort to get more women on stage at VR conferences
- Lindsay Bolton, Finger Lakes VRA founder and host of its new Humans in Hospitality podcast
- Heidy Seoenz, who got the City of El Paso to hold off on regulations and pilot a program with the El Paso STRA instead
- Diane Daniels, founder of Vacation Donations, diverting STR waste to better use
- Stacey St. John, host of the STR Sisterhood Podcast, and Margot Schmorak, CEO of Hostfully, both champions for female entrepreneurs and leaders in the industry

Industry News: Spotlight on State Bills
Florida’s SB280, a bill to give more power to local governments to regulate vacation rentals, is heading to the Governor’s desk. Florida hosts: Ask him to veto the bill here.
Though edits are expected (thanks to CLARA’s advocacy efforts – see below), all are watching Colorado’s SB-33, a lodging property tax bill originally drafted to quadruple STR property tax rates. Colorado hosts: oppose the bill here.
Meanwhile, California’s SB584, proposing a 15% tax on STR transactions to create a fund for workforce housing development, idles in the Legislature, whose session doesn’t end until November.
Arizona Legislature opts to hear no STR bills this session, in no small part due to Arizonans for Responsible Tourism’s year-after-year effort (see below).
